SOCCER SUPERSTAR SENTENCED TO FLOGGING IN THE SUDAN

Nigerian star Stephen Worgu, who plays in Sudan, has been convicted of drinking alcohol and has been sentenced to be flogged.Worgu plays for the Sudanese giants Al Merreikh, who are based in Omdurman in Northern Sudan.Alcohol is illegal in the Muslim North, though not in the semi-autonomous and largely non-Muslim South.The punishment on the diminutive attacking player has not yet been carried out, as his lawyer has appealed. With the hoopla we had built around Samuel Peter, who had a week earlier been declared the Interim WBC Heavyweight Champion, added to the fact that the former champion, Oleg Maskaev originally from Russia had been stripped of the championship for not defending against Samuel “The Nigerian Nightmare” Peter, we almost had heart attacks in rounds 2 and 3, when Samuel was knocked down three times by this a-no- body-we-thought person, Jameel McCline. Lady Nicky Anosike has become a basketball player of national recognition. She has led the Lady Vols of the University of Tennessee in blocked shots (19), and ranked third in rebounding (5.6 per game). She became a starter in the last 15 games the team played, where she averaged 9.3 points and 7.1 rebounds over her final eight regular season starts. (click here)
