NOBODY OWES BLACKS ANYTHING: TRUTH, HONESTY AND FRANKNESS

My topic today is the Black Race - it is not about Africans from the continent, or Africans in the Diaspora, or African West Indians, but about the Black Race. My discussion is about truth, it is about honesty and frankness.  It is about no more lies, no more hiding the truth, and no more blaming others for what is happening to the Black Race.  It is about accepting responsibility for our actions; it is about playing the same games that others are playing and becoming very successful.  (READ MORE)

NYERERE AND THE NEW TANZANIA:  A SUCCESS STORY

"Given his singular visionary leadership, culturally, politically, Pan-Africanistically, and more so economically, I believe a reassessment of Nyerere’s economic policy is in order.  Rather than being described as an “Heroic Failure,” it should be described as an “Monumental Success.” It goes to the core of my belief, that we should stop attempting to run before we could even crawl.  The deliberate steps at economic engineering are the seeds of economic success.  I salute you, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere!!" IS CHINA'S INVOLVEMENT IN AFRICA IMPERIALISTIC?

It has become an axiom of faith that these days, no week passes by without a major western newspaper, magazine, television news program or radio commentators, commenting on the Chinese penetration in Africa, and especially how the Chinese are snapping up Africa’s important natural resources on the cheap. In fact, the word these western commentators are more likely to use is “pillaging” Africa’s natural resources. Just last week, African leaders gathered in the sunny French Riveria city of Cannes.

ISN'T WILLIAM JEFFERSON'S SENTENCE EXCESSIVE COMPARED TO HIS COLLEAGUES?

WHO'S A TRUE AFRICAN-AMERICAN?
Posted by Chika Onyeani

According to the Harvard University news of January-February, 2004 there was a lot of pleased talk at the reunion about the increase of black students at the university, which has 'ballooned' to 530 or about 8% of Harvard's 2003 enrolment.  However, the celebratory mood of the evening was broken by Prof. Guinier who charged that the majority  - perhaps as many as two-thirds - of the students were not true African-Americans, but West Indian and African immigrants or their children, or to a lesser extent, children of biracial couples. WHITE MASTERS, BLACK SLAVES
Posted by Chika Onyeani

"The grocery store owner in Harlem, New York who sells tainted milk and expired food; the Chinese restaurant owner on Georgia Avenue in Washington, DC who sells rat and roach infested food; the Indian taxi driver in New York who refuses to stop to take us where we are going; the Caucasian restaurant owner who sits us at the back of the restaurant so that we would not "diminish" his standing with his guests; the Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue's and Macy's security men who follow us all over the store, have every right to do so because we deserve to be treated contemptuously. THE JERRY RAWLINGS CIRCUS
Posted by Chika Onyeani

Mr. Rawlings almost completely abandoned the subject he was supposed to discuss, and informed us how he wished we had 4 hours and would like to discuss the last eight years of misrule in Ghana. Seriously, he was totally petty, and most of the time he was shouting about this and that, though he had informed us - with him and everybody laughing - that his wife had admonished him about his shouting during his speech making. He used the phrase, "ladies and gentlemen," like a thousand times. He would try to remember the subject matter but would lapse again into his criticism of the Kufuor government. (click here)

OUR RIBADU-EL-RUFAI OBSESSION
Posted by Prof. Moses Ochonu

The jury is still out on the tenures of Nuhu Ribadu and Nasir El-Rufai, but those who are jittery about history’s verdict on the duo are already out in force, rehabilitating and romanticizing them. The two men themselves suffer from delusions of heroic accomplishment. They have helped stoke an outpouring of revisionist histories that have wittingly or unwittingly fumigated their complicity in the political crimes of the recent past. Their recent actions, however, betray a more sober aw areness of the gradual unraveling of their populist self-packaging. They have become vocal in defending their records, while taking cheap shots at the Yar’Adua-Waziri nightmare, which they created. (click here)

NIGERIA: THE OBAMA SNUB?

NIGERIA: THE OBAMA SNUB?
Posted by africannewsworld

On the 16th of May, the White House Press Secretary issued a press release about President Barack Obama's itinerary during July, 2009, including a visit to Russia from July 6 to 8, and attending the G-8 Summit from July 8-10. But what caught the attention of most Africans was the last paragraph of the release, which said "The President and Mrs. Obama will visit Accra, Ghana, from July 10 to 11. While in Ghana, the President will discuss a range of bilateral and regional issues with Ghanaian President Mills. The President and Mrs. Obama look forward to strengthening the U.S. relationship with one of our most trusted partners in sub-Saharan Africa, and to highlighting the critical role that sound governance and civil society play in promoting lasting development." AMBASSADOR ROTIMI AND THE $20 MILLION QUESTION

AMBASSADOR ROTIMI AND THE
$20 MILLION QUESTION

by Chika Onyeani

His Exllency Ambassador Brigadier-General (rtd) Oluwole Rotimi, the recalled Nigerian Ambassador to Washington, DC

"I am not going to return the money," said Mr. Emeka Ugwuonye, "my firm earned it as a fee. It is right there in our retainer agreement with the Embassy." Ugwuonye was referring to the $1.55 million allegedly reimbursed to the Embassy by the State of Maryland, according to one of the write-ups in defence of Ambassador Oluwole Rotimi, who has been asked to return to Nigeria after sending an incendiary and explosive, tribally-laden letter to his Foreign Minister. Defenders of Ambassador Rotimi are now pointing to this money or his attempts to collect this money as now the focal point of his recall. (click here)

MADAGASCAR: RAVALOMANANA MADAGASCAR: RAVALOMANANA AND RAJOELINA
- A THEATER INTOLERANT OF DICTATORSHIP

by Chika Onyeani

Letter to Africa

Since its independence, it has become an axiom of faith that the people of Madagascar vehemently abhor authoritarianism, and will also vehemently oppose any leader who decides to impose his or her tyrannical leadership on them. Recent events in the country bear this out, where the current disc-jockey turned leader, Rajoelina ousted the former President Ravalomanana to be installed as President by the military. This is not unique to these two individuals, in fact, Mr. Rajoelina seems to have borrowed the same play-book that Mr. Ravalomanana had used in ousting the former President Didier Ratsiraka.   THE BARACK OBAMA 'NOT BLACK ENOUGH' DEBATE
by Chika Onyeani

First of all, as one of the commentators pointed out in reply to Crouch’s article, “Crouch is an idiot.” Secondly, my grandmother used to say that people who are ugly behave in an ugly manner. And so it is with Stanley Crouch. Crouch is of course not the only black writer or leader who has been making this point of Barack Obama not being black enough because he is not a descendant of “plantation slave blacks.” Come to think of it, most of the so-called black leaders who have been leading the black community through the centuries have been blacks with white blood in their veins, even with greater percentage than Obama’s.   PAKISTAN: A DICTATORSHIP CRUMBLES
 by Michael Roberts

Talk about a witches brew. When you add the nationalist rebellion in Baluchistan and the simmering conflict with India over Kashmir and a growing populist resentment of Musharraf, especially in the Muslim streets, over his love affair with Mr. Bush and the situation becomes only bleaker.   MALLAM NUHU RIBADU SHOULD
SHUT UP OR RESIGN NOW

 by Sabella Abidde

Mr. Nuhu Ribadu is nothing but a raconteur, a noise maker, a showman and a showboat and a loudspeaker. He plays to the gallery. He enjoys traversing the world mostly for meaningless awards, and to give redundant speeches. This is a man who doesn’t mind showing up in Siberia, Tincan Island, or the Death Valley, to address half-a-dozen or so people. He likes to hear himself talk and talk and talk until he get hoarse and gruffly. In the five or so years since he assumed the chairmanship of the EFCC, what has he accomplished? What has he done to warrant his continued employment? Nothing! Simply put: He is a drag and drain on the country. He is a waste and a failure.  (click here)
