It appears war has broken out between the Buharis, Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife Aisha Buhari. Last week, as Donald Trump was making derogatory remarks about women, and as Buhari was jetting out to Germany to meet the most powerful woman President Angela Merkel, he took the opportunity to belittle his wife. When asked about Donald Trump's remarks about women, President Buhari ignored the question and said his wife belonged to the kitchen. Remember, this is a couple that campaigned together and Aisha went all over the country to campaign for her husband. Well, it seems Aisha has retaliated for the wrong reasons. Interviewed on BBC, she said she may not vote for her husband in 2019 if things continue the way they were, which is dire in the country. "He is yet to tell me but I have decided, as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again," Aisha Buhari said in the interview. She said people who did not share the vision of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), had been appointed to senior positions because of the influence wielded by a "few people". "The president does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don't know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years," Aisha Buhari said. Aisha Buhari is being lambasted for this myopic view. The President doesn't have to personally know all the people he appoints into office: it is the job of his party to select and recommend the people. Which is what exactly happened: Buhari taking more than seven months to app0oint his cabinet, and exactly what is the APC agenda that the 95% of people she said she didn't personally know are not following? It is the same myopia that the husband has been employing in governing the country.
